Debi Neat, M.Ed., a 34-year experienced educator working extensively in Crisis Intervention and Prevention, leads this deeply informative look into the definition, types, signs, symptoms, and impacts of trauma on learning, behavior, and relationships. Using the 4 Rs - Realize, Recognize, Respond, and Resist, Neat teaches us how to reframe our perceptions of our students’ behaviors and to use self-care and self-regulation to create classrooms that are stable, consistent, and safe for students to enter and remain in learning mode. In addition to referencing the value of multi-tiered behavioral systems like KOI’s PBIS, she also provides a comprehensive list of strategies that not only regulate our classrooms but also help us build relationships vital to our students’ well-being and our own.
